KnowFauquier.org is a web site established by me, Jay Heroux, a 33-year resident of the county. My purpose in running this site is simply to provide an average citizen understanding of the relevant facts about our county. These facts can perhaps return us to a civic and respectful dialog on the choices we need to make that ensure Fauquier County remains a great community.
A note on what this site is not. It is not an argument for any specific development project, zoning change or political candidate. IT IS an argument for informed citizens. What Fauquier does with this information is a decision that belongs to all of us. Not to any report."
My name is Jay Heroux. I manage this site and prepare the content. I am a private citizen and 33-year resident of Fauquier County. My wife and I own property at 112 Fairfax Street in Warrenton. I am currently an employee of the Department of the Air Force. A current OGE 450 financial disclosure is on file and approved by the Air Force General Counsel.
My community involvement includes volunteering on the PATH Foundation Community Action Committee, former board member at Ethnos College and served as a Fauquier Hospital Chaplain. I am an active participant in the Rooted Motel Ministry and Wood Ministry at Warrenton Baptist Church. I am a two-time former President of the Fauquier County Roller Hockey League and a volunteer hockey, basketball and soccer coach here in Fauquier. I am a former appointed member of the Warrenton Town Council - not elected - appointed when there was a Ward 5 vacancy. I was also appointed by the Warrenton Town Council to serve on a citizen advisory committee providing input to the Town and its paid consultant as the Town considers possible zoning changes. This role is purely advisory. I have no approval authority. My advisory focus has been primarily on homelessness.
This site is independent and the conclusions and views on this website are my own. The site is entirely self-funded by me. No one has paid me for its content, conclusions, or recommendations. All data used was either publicly available, sourced from the Fauquier County website or provided to me upon request by the Fauquier County government or other jurisdictions.
I am not, and have never been, a developer, real estate agent, land use attorney, paid zoning consultant, or any other type of land use lobbyist for any person, business, government, or nonprofit. My only prior role relating to land use was as a member of the Warrenton Town Council and on the current committee.
In the interest of full transparency, I own publicly traded stock in companies spanning information technology, industrial, energy, retail, and commercial sectors. I have no insider knowledge of, or special relationship with, any company with interests in Fauquier County. I am an ordinary shareholder with no special voting rights.
I am not petitioning any government body for permits, zoning changes, or special use approvals of any kind. I am not affiliated with Fauquier Forward, Protect Fauquier, the Piedmont Environmental Council, Citizens for Fauquier County, or any similar advocacy organization.The content in this web site may contain errors.
